Karyn Pugliese

Karyn Pugliese is a political news junkie, award-winning journalist and proud mom. She has more than 10 years experience reporting, producing and hosting television news and current affairs.

Karyn launched her journalism career at the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network. As part of APTN’s first news team, Karyn established APTN National News as a credible, fair, and hard-hitting presence on Parliament Hill.  She provided daily news and in-depth interviews with some of Canada’s top-newsmakers, and produced investigative pieces designed to bring further depth, context and analysis to hotly contested issues. APTN also provided Karyn’s first opportunities to host live news, call-in shows and live special event coverage.

After leaving APTN Karyn joined the investigative team at 360 Vision, VisionTV’s magazine current affairs show, tackling controversial and sometimes heart-rending stories on social issues like homelessness, suicide, pornography and sexual harassment.

Most recently Karyn has hosted @issue, ichannel’s flagship current affairs talk show series which delivers hard-hitting discussion of today’s most controversial topics, from Canada’s role in Afghanistan to tough-on-crime legislation.

She currently hosts and produces #FAQMP (Frequently asked questions for your MP) a show that asks viewers to pick who gets interviewed, and ask their own questions. Guests have included Bob Rae, Jason Kenney, Justin Trudeau, Pat Martin, Romeo Saganash and more. It’s onlne and on ichannel 8 pm ET on Mondays.

Some highlights of Karyn’s career include using access to information requests (ATIPs) to break a story on how one First Nation community was left millions of dollars in debt after federal officials broke tendering rules. She also crawled through asbestos-filled attics to reveal how the federal government broke its promise to remove the cancer-causing substance it had placed in First Nations people’s homes. Both stories won Native American Journalism Awards and the latter was nominated for a CAB Gold Ribbon Award.

Karyn cares about the people and issues she covers, and tries to keep in touch. If you know her, or want to know her, don’t be afraid to drop her a line at: info at karynpugliese.com

Other things you may not know about Karyn: She ran the AFN’s Department of Communications for 2 years, has a wheezy laugh, a good sense of humour and she favours coffee-coloured clothing as she tends to spill coffee on herself.

Karyn currently lives in Quebec with her son, Zac, husband Greg, and cuddly but somewhat evil cat (which is why she frequently has white hairs on her clothes).

This blog was inspired by Karyn’s colleague Maureen Googoo who insists that online journalism is the wave of the future.

It’s Karyn’s personal space for original news, commentary, photos.
